Abstract
The Quirpon Lighthouse Inn is located at the very northern tip of the island of Newfoundland and can only be reached by Zodiac boat transfer. Set in an unspoiled and remote location, it offers a truly unique stay surrounded by dramatic coastal scenery and breathtaking cliffside views. Guests can enjoy whale-watching excursions to spot humpback whales, fin whales, orcas, and a wide variety of marine wildlife, as well as hiking along the rugged coastline.
This area is famously known as “Iceberg Alley,” meaning that from May through early July it is possible to admire these extraordinary natural sculptures drifting along the coast. After sunset, the only light comes from the white flashes of the lighthouse, apart from the occasional appearance of the Northern Lights.
Thanks to its location between St. Anthony and L'Anse aux Meadows, Quirpon Island is considered one of the best places in Newfoundland for iceberg viewing, with one of the longest viewing seasons — in the best years, the last icebergs can still be seen melting offshore well into autumn. The abundance of marine life and the unique underwater topography also make these waters an ideal migration route for whales. It is not uncommon for them to approach so close to shore that they seem almost within reach. Among the most frequently sighted species are humpback and fin whales, although up to 22 different whale species, including orcas, may be spotted in the area.
An overnight stay here is a truly unforgettable experience. Guests sleep in what was once the lighthouse keeper’s residence, dating back to 1922 and located directly on the shores of Iceberg Alley. Fully renovated, the inn features 10 charmingly decorated rooms spread across two houses at the foot of the lighthouse, offering one or two beds and private bathrooms.,
