Day 1 — Uyuni
Arrival at international airport and transfer to national airport, meet & greet with the guide, departure to the Salar de Uyuni, The Uyuni Salt Flat, Salar de Uyuni in Spanish, 3,656 m asl, 10,582 square km, is not a lake in the conventional sense: though below there is water, its uppermost layer consists of a thick, hard crust of salt, capable of supporting the weight of a car. So harsh and inhospitable is this perfectly flat white expanse, with unbroken chains of snowcapped mountains lining the far horizon, that it’s easy to believe you’re on another planet. During the wet season, from December to April, it’s covered by a thin layer of water that forms a giant mirror, reflecting the sky so neatly that the line of the horizon disappears. In this extreme enviroment only tenacious ecosystems can survive, including colonies of cacti and other hardy plants and flocks of flamingoes. Equally hardy are the isolated communities of Aymara and Quechua campesinos. ROOMS: rooms only have one or two beds. “Triple”, “quadruple”, “family” room refers to the number of the guests, who will sleep in the beds provided (max. 2). The possibility of adding a rollaway bed – even if requested at the time of reservation – is subject to availability, with a supplement to be paid on site. Likewise, special requests for double or separate beds; adjoining, high-floor, low-floor rooms etc. are always upon request and these services can never be considered as granted.. TRAVEL DOCUMENTS: before the start of the tour, all the participants must make sure they possess the required documents to enter the destination countries, and that such documents are comprehensive and valid..
