Despite being a big city, Adelaide is relaxed and pleasant, surrounded by green parks even in the driest months, with spacious squares and avenues. The Italian community is the second largest after the English one and gives the city a vaguely Mediterranean atmosphere.

The boats to Kangaroo Islands leave from the pier of Cape Jervis, about a one and a half hour drive into the wild Australian nature. The cruise lasts about 45 minutes. The third Australian island after Tasmania and Melville Island has spectacular coasts and forests, and an impressive variety of animals: kangaroos, koalas, echidnas, platypuses, penguins, seals, sea lions, and sometimes even whales passing by. Despite being one of the main Australian tourist destinations, it is still remarkably wild.

You can start your visit to Seal Bay with a memorable walk on the beach among the sea lions (at a safe distance!). With a bit of luck, you will see some lazy koalas resting on the ancient eucalyptus trees. In the western part of the island, explore Flinders Chase National Park with a walk in search of kangaroos, wallabies, and the numerous varieties of birds; from August to November, the park is covered in wildflowers, a fantastic sight. At Cape du Couedic, around the impressive Admirals Arch cave, over 10,000 southern fur seals rest, and you can also see the curious rock formations of Remarkable Rocks, perched on the cliff above the turbulent waters of the ocean.

If the ferry is booked for the afternoon, take some time to visit the rest of the island. Transfer to Penneshaw and depart on the ferry to Cape Jervis (last ferry at 7:30 pm, but be careful of the darkness. It is dangerous to drive a regular car at night). Continue along the Southern Expressway and arrive in Adelaide late in the evening (approximately 110 km).

"Alice" or "The Alice" is the unofficial capital of the Red Centre and not just a base for visiting Uluru / Ayers Rock. Three attractions not to be missed are: the Araluen Arts Centre with works by a famous Aboriginal artist, the Museum of Central Australia with local fossils and meteorites, and the Central Australian Aviation Museum, the visitor centre of the Royal Flying Doctors Service, with guided tours every half hour. Another must-visit is the Desert Park, which offers an easy 1.6 km walk through three natural habitats with around 120 species of animals that are rarely seen in the desert surrounding the town, including kangaroos, but especially small marsupials like the rare bilby, reptiles like the curious thorny devils lizards, and birds; don't miss the bird of prey show. The visit takes about two hours. The centre occupies a small area between the Stuart Highway and Leichhardt Terrace, along the perpetually dry Todd River. Todd Mall, a pedestrian street with cafes and art galleries, cuts the town in half. For a panoramic view of the city and the MacDonnell Ranges, climb to the top of Anzac Hill.

Alice Springs / Kings Canyon (approximately 360km / 5 hours). A landscape dominated by the brick red of the earth, the yellow of spinifex bushes, and the blue of the sky. For those with a 4x4 and a spirit of adventure, depart towards Kings Canyon following the Larapinta Drive, through the West Mac Donnell Ranges. After passing the historic town of Hermannsburg, home to an Aboriginal community, you will reach the Mereenie Loop Road, an unpaved road that can only be traveled with a 4x4. This road is used by Aboriginal people and experienced bushmen to reach Kings Canyon more quickly. Arrive at Kings Canyon before sunset and don't miss the magic of the evening colors on the Canyon by taking the shortest route inside it, leaving the longer and more challenging one for the following morning. Note: in case of closure of the Mereenie Loop Road or if you have a conventional rental car, you will need to return to the Stuart Highway and turn onto the Lasseters Highway to reach Kings Canyon following the Luritja Road (approximately 470km / 5 hours). Kings Canyon, in Watarrka National Park, is an area of cultural importance for Aboriginal people for tens of thousands of years. The site doesn't attract the crowds like Uluru/Ayers Rock, but those who make it here will take home equally unforgettable memories. For the "Rim Walk," you climb the side of the cliff along steps carved into the rock (in about half an hour); once at the top, you proceed through a maze of limestone boulders called "The Lost City," beyond a bridge that leads to a group of springs surrounded by ferns ("The Garden of Eden"), and then descend on the other side among more boulders. Along the way, there are splendid panoramic viewpoints. If you visit the park in the southern winter, don't leave too early because the sun doesn't illuminate the canyon walls until mid-morning. In total, it's a 6 km hike that takes about 3-4 hours round trip with some effort. The Rim Walk should be avoided in summer (between September and May) because it gets too hot. Alternatively, you can follow the trail at the bottom of the canyon (2.6 km) in the dry bed of Kings Creek.

Kings Canyon / Ayers Rock (approximately 310km / 4.5 hours). At dawn, there is the possibility to take a 3-hour itinerary to climb the canyon. Not to be missed!!! Continue to Ayers Rock. After passing Ayers Rock Resort, you enter Uluru National Park (25 AUD) and the Olgas Mountains, sacred Aboriginal mountains, for a walk through the valleys that separate them. Return to Ayers Rock in time to admire the spectacle that the sunset creates around the monolith. The Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, protects the spectacular rock formations known as Ayers Rock and the Olgas. Uluru/Ayers Rock is undoubtedly one of the most breathtaking natural wonders on Earth; equally mesmerizing is the cluster of round rocks of Kata Tjuta/the Olgas. If you are traveling between May and October, make sure to pack appropriate clothing. The nights and mornings can be quite cold, so it is important to have warm clothes in your suitcase, especially if you plan on activities at sunset or sunrise.

Flight to Sydney. The most Australian of Australian cities, with its surroundings, is a true microcosm of the country. Sydney is the only city in Australia to have a tangible sense of history in the Rocks neighborhood, a unique city that goes beyond the wonderful bay, but reveals its true soul in the neighborhoods and beaches of the suburbs, with a cosmopolitan and sophisticated population and the highest number of Aboriginal people.
