Cape Town rises in one of the most spectacular natural settings on earth, hemmed between the ocean and the towering flat-topped wall of Table Mountain, which presides over South Africa’s most beloved city. The cableway to the summit unveils 360-degree views over the city, the peninsula and the Atlantic, while the trails of Table Mountain National Park — UNESCO-listed as part of the Cape Floral Region — wind through the world’s unique endemic fynbos vegetation. Livingstone is the historic town that serves as the gateway to Victoria Falls on the Zambian side, where the Zambezi thunders into the gorge and lifts its famous cloud of spray. Named after the explorer David Livingstone, it retains a colonial charm with period buildings, museums and craft markets. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the falls are admired from scenic trails and, in the low-water months, from the daring 'Devil's Pool' on the very edge of the drop.
