Giorno 2 — Yogyakarta
Breakfast, Early in the morning, visit to Prambanan. Built in the 10th century, it is the largest Hindu temple complex in Indonesia. It consists of three temples decorated with reliefs illustrating the epic of the Ramayana, dedicated to the three great Hindu deities (Shiva, Vishnu, and Brahma). Then visit the city of Yogyakarta with the Sultan's Palace (closed on Mondays), also known as "Keraton". The Palace is built with typical Javanese architecture and inside it showcases the cultural heritage that tells the history of the region. Next, visit the Water Castle, which was once the royal family's vacation garden. Then visit a batik factory, where silk or cotton fabrics are painted using a very special process. Transportation between Keraton, Water Castle, and the Batik factory is done by traditional pedal-powered tricycles called "Becak". Continue with an interesting walking tour in the Kotagede neighborhood, strolling among the locals' houses where you can interact with them. Lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, visit the Buddhist temple of Borobudur (closed on Mondays). The massive stone stupa of Borobudur is one of the largest ancient architectural monuments linked to the Mahayana tradition. Buried under volcanic ash and tropical vegetation, it was only rediscovered in 1815 and has been completely restored by UNESCO. It is truly a Mandala, a map of the cosmic universe and the human mind: a point of integration, union, and connection.
