The Great Bear Lodge is an exclusive eco-lodge located in the remote Great Bear Rainforest in British Columbia. Surrounded by pristine wilderness and accessible only by seaplane, it offers an intimate and sustainable experience with a limited number of guests. It is particularly renowned for grizzly bear viewing in their natural habitat, guided by expert naturalists, as well as for its strong commitment to ecotourism and environmental conservation. Set in the heart of the coastal temperate rainforest of British Columbia’s wild and remote coastline, 80 km north of Port Hardy, the Great Bear Lodge offers an extraordinary natural setting. Steep forested slopes plunge into deep waters shaded in green and dark blue, fed by glacial sources. Here, silence prevails, broken only by the gentle lapping of water, the distant roar of waterfalls, and the calls of seabirds. The lodge itself is a charming two-level floating structure, perfectly integrated into its surroundings. It hosts a very limited number of guests to ensure an intimate, low-impact experience. Energy is generated entirely from renewable sources, including solar panels and wind turbines; it is therefore sufficient for charging electronic devices, but not for high-consumption appliances such as hairdryers. The rooms are simple yet comfortable, with no televisions or telephones, and feature private bathrooms, while the showers are located on the lower level and are shared. The lodge lies in the heart of the Nekite Valley, one of the areas with the highest concentration of grizzly bears. In autumn, when salmon return to the rivers, it is common to observe numerous bears feeding in preparation for hibernation. However, bear viewing is not limited to this season: from late April onwards, grizzlies emerge from hibernation and return to the estuaries, where they begin feeding on the abundant spring vegetation.,

Please also provide arrival and departure details for Port Hardy in order to arrange transfers, along with an emergency contact for the guests. All guests are required to sign a liability waiver prior to departure. A luggage allowance of 14 kg (30 lb) per person is permitted on the seaplane flight (exceptions apply for photographic equipment). Excess luggage can be stored at the Port Hardy floatplane terminal at no additional cost.,

SEASONAL ACTIVITIES Spring (May 7 – June 27): Guests will observe and photograph bears from boats. Spring coincides with the breeding season, when large males can be seen with females. The estuary is also rich in wildlife at this time of year. Summer (June 30 – August 17): Grizzly bears move between various habitats, making it possible to spot them from boats as they roam. Bears may be seen feeding on berries, grazing in estuary grasslands, or searching for early salmon. Guests may also spot curious seals and other wildlife. Autumn (August 20 – October 16): The return of thousands of salmon in late August marks the beginning of the fall season. Viewing platforms along the river provide eye-level views of the bears. CANCELLATION PENALTIES: From the time of booking: 10% of the total amount – if the booking is made within 60 days of arrival, full payment of the package is required immediately.
