With a total area of 21,812 km², Tsavo is the largest national park in the country and takes its name from the Tsavo River, which runs through it. The park was opened in April 1948 and in May of the same year it was divided, for administrative purposes, into Tsavo East National Park and Tsavo West National Park. The two parks are divided by the road from Nairobi to Mombasa. Both are administered by the Kenya Wildlife Service. Due to its exceptional biodiversity, the park is considered one of the most valuable nature reserves in the world., Tsavo West is dotted with hills and small ridges, creating a varied and fascinating topography. These places offer spectacular viewpoints from which to admire the vastness of the park. Characterised by vast expanses of savannah, swamps, lagoons and a landscape dominated by the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro, Amboseli is a place of great charm and fascinating landscape contrasts. The park is renowned for its wide variety of wildlife and is one of the best places in Africa to observe elephants in the wild. It is estimated that the park is home to one of the largest populations of African elephants. In addition to elephants, you can also spot buffalo, wildebeest, zebras, giraffes, lions, cheetahs, hippos and a wide range of birds. Furthermore, Amboseli is an important migration area for birds, which find refuge there during their migratory journey. VISA: As of January 1, 2024, a visa will no longer be required for Kenya; however, travelers must obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) before starting their trip by registering on the website www.etakenya.go.ke at a cost of $34 per person. Starting from June 2020, in the protected areas of Kenya - national parks, beaches, wildlife reserves, and forests - the use of single-use plastic items and packaging will be prohibited., VACCINATIONS: No vaccination certificate is required for tourists coming directly from Europe.
