The city of Muscat is divided into three main parts: Muscat (or Old Muscat), Muttrah and Ruwi. The oldest part of the city is located near the harbour. Here you will find the Sultan's Palace, Al Jalali Fortress and the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque. Muttrah is a port and commercial area with a traditional market, the Muttrah Souq, where you can buy handicrafts, spices and fabrics. Ruwi is the modern part of the city, with skyscrapers, shopping centres and restaurants.
